Don’t Get Left in the Cold: Replace Your Car Windshield

It’s a cold winter day and you go out to your car to find that the windshield is cracked. What are you going to do? If you’re like most people, you’ll probably try to fix it yourself. Windshield repair and replacement can be tricky, but it’s not impossible.

The first step is to find a new windshield that matches the make and model of your car. You can do this by measuring the area where your old windshield used to be, and then locating one online or at an auto parts store. Be sure to get a good quality replacement windshield that fits properly.

Next, you will need to remove the old windshield. Make sure you wear safety glasses when doing this as broken glass can cause serious injuries. Begin by cutting out the sealant around the perimeter of the window with a sharp tool like an X-Acto knife. Then, use pliers to detach all pieces of metal trim from around the edge of the window frame before unscrewing any bolts or screws holding it in place. Once the windshield is loose, carefully pull it out of the frame and dispose of it properly.

The third step is to prepare the new windshield for installation. Start by cleaning any debris or dirt from around the edges of the window frame with a cloth and hot soapy water. Then, place a small bead of sealant around all sides of the window before inserting it into its proper position in the car. Make sure to test fit your new windshield a few times before permanently installing it.

Finally, install the new windshield by screwing or bolting it into place in its pre-drilled holes in the frame. If you’re using screws, make sure they are tight but not too tight as this could cause them to strip. Once everything is screwed in place, apply a generous amount of sealant around the edges of the new windshield and let it dry for 24 hours before driving your car.
